Honoring Indigenous Peoples
Today we honor indigenous peoples. We recognize the fact that we live on stolen land. We acknowledge the fact that indigenous peoples have suffered at the hands of strangers on their land for centuries. We realize the privileges we draw daily at the cost of their continued persecution.
Today is a day to honor the cultures of indigenous peoples, talk with friends and family about the injustices they’ve been subjected to, and create a plan to foster policies that support their current needs while celebrating their deep history with this land.
Here are a few things you can do to honor indigenous peoples:
Look up indigenous peoples that lived on the land you now live on and share some of their traditions and culture with your children, family, or friends.
Text your city and state to 907-312-5085 to see what indigenous peoples previously lived on the land you now occupy.
Create a plan or commit to VOTE for policies that work to protect and support native communities.
